News

The “Y” is inclusive of everyone and all are welcome. You will find a warm welcome from us at our central and friendly location in the centre of Glenrothes.

We look forward to moving to new headquarters in Glenrothes, hopefully by 2013. A major supermarket will be building on our existing site.

WASH New Build Plans

We recently received planning permission from Fife Council to take forward the complete refurbishment and extension plans for the WASH site. We are all very excited about the opportunities this will bring for our service users and staff, especially as our vision for these new homes will complement the new “Prevention First” approach to homelessness in Fife . Meantime, with the help of Community Service participants, we are currently freshening up all the flats at WASH with a coat of paint and some new carpets to tide us over until the work starts. Watch this space!

YCreate!

During the summer holidays (2010) the Y ran a summer creative school for young people. Activities ranged from music and film-making to circus skills and dance. A short two day course in animation was also put on. As a result a small group of young people have helped to start a new YCreate youth club on Tuesday evenings. There is still space for another 10 young people (under 18s) to join.

Youth Clubs are closed for the October break but are back for the winter term. Click for more details HERE.

From October the Wednesday Youth Club will include visits from “The Hub” (NHS Fife young people's health service advice).

Partnerships, Networking and Promotion

Glenrothes YMCA-YWCA is taking part in the new approach to homeless housing in Fife - “Prevention First”. This model is based on others run in Ayrshire and some areas of England where the focus has been on finding alternative outcomes for people rather than homeless accommodation.

The “Y” is participating in one of two Pilots being run in Glenrothes and Levenmouth. Each pilot is running for 6 months, allowing the “Y” to contribute towards shaping the future for Fife 's people. During the first 3 months only 3 in 20 (15%) of those helped by all the partners in the Prevention First Pilot required homelessness assessment/temporary accommodation (13 customers out of 86).
